EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
— CATHERINE NICE (MENTOR AT HOOK-WITH-WARSASH CE ACADEMY)

Throughout her training, Jennifer not only looked in depth at the pedagogy behind teaching, but linked theory to practice by gaining experience in many schools across London and the South of England. This exposure has given her a widespread understanding of teaching and an appreciation for the multitude of differences we all have which effect how we learn. Throughout her induction year at Hook-with-Warsash CE Academy, Jennifer attended numerous teacher development courses and the expertise she has refined through both study and practice will continue to flourish in all her future teaching endeavors.

COLLABORATIVE CONCERT PROJECT

During her time at Hook-with-Warsash CE Academy, Jennifer rehearsed the school choir for a large concert with five other primary schools in the area, alongside the main secondary school. Jennifer also collaborated with the award-winning music education organisation, Tomorrow’s Warriors in workshops preceding the concert to help prepare the children in singing a number of songs with the mass choir. Additionally, she assisted in rehearsing a separate choir and soloists for the school’s production of Oliver. Both of these performances took place at Ferenham Hall in Fareham.

Global Voices Project

After working for two years at Brookfield Community School as a Saturday Morning School Choir Leader where she put on a number of successful concerts with her choir, Jennifer was appointed to go on a month long, working trip to South Africa. This was part of a project called Global Voices set up by partner schools in the UK and South Africa to help bring music into schools in the town of Paarl. Jennifer visited six local primary and secondary schools leading singing workshops and rehearsing a set of African songs. The school choirs then combined to form a mass choir, performing the African songs in a series of concerts during her stay, backed by the Global Voices Big Band.

THE CONCERTS WERE A GREAT SUCCESS AND THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE IS STILL ONE OF MY FONDEST TEACHING MEMORIES. THE RELATION TO SUCH A DIFFERENT CULTURE THROUGH SINGING GAVE SO MUCH REWARD AND PROVIDED THE MEANS TO CONNECT WITH THE CHILDREN AND MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES.

Harmonious Music School

Channeling passions for teaching and with singing with others, Jennifer set up an exciting music service for primary schools focussed around small group singing lessons after witnessing how well children responded to this method of learning. She led workshops and small group singing lessons in a number of schools around Hampshire and put on concerts for children, parents and teachers.
